TITANIC TALK | Titanic Actor Peter White ~ 3rd Officer Groves in James Cameron's Titanic
Peter White auditioned for a number of roles in Titanic and eventually landed the role of the wireless operator of the Californian who tragically turned off his radio and went to bed while the Titanic sank. Peter did extensive research into his character, Charles Victor Groves, or 3rd Officer Groves, of the Californian. He spent more than four months in Rosarito Beach, Mexico, getting to know his fellow cast mates while waiting to be called the set to film his scenes.
He regales Nelson and Alexandra with tales from the nightly Happy Hours in the Real Del Mar bar to filming on the set of the Californian wireless room, only to find at an early screening that he had been completely cut from the film. All he was left with was a group of new friends and a special story to repeat at dinner parties in the ensuing twenty five years.
Peter is featured in Alexandra's documentary Ship of Dreams: Titanic Movie Diaries reading from the diary he wrote in 1998.
